Thrifty treasures & a metamorphosis or two

I hope that all of you had a Happy Mother's Day yesterday. Mine was pretty good, I did pretty much what I wanted to do (except for relax). I decided to start my procrastination project that I'm suppose to show on Thursday. I ran into a few problems, so I'm hoping that it will be done in time.

Since today is Monday it is time to share Today's Thrifty Treasures hosted by Rhoda at Southern Hospitality. As well as any projects that we have done, also known as Metamorphosis Monday hosted by Susan at Between Naps on the Porch. Be sure to visit both of these fabulous women's blogs to see what they have to share and to find this weeks participants. And don't forgot to leave comments. You know how we love comments.

I'll first start off with some thrifty finds I found at some discount retail stores. Even though they didn't come from a thrift store or yard sale, the prices were great so I think they still qualify as thrifty finds.

I found these Mercury glass candle holders at Big Lots. They were $1.80 a piece. They were marked down 70%. No doubt these will show up in a tablescape one of these Thursdays. So keep you eyes open.

A week ago I went to the Pottery Barn outlet in Lake Elsinore. I got these pillow shams for $1.00 each. You heard me right. $1.00!!!!
I also found these Euro pillow shams at Pottery Barn outlet for $1.00 each as well. I got the last two. I wish I could have scored 5 total, then I could have used them on my couch, but they only had 2. Oh well, I'll just have to use them on my bed. Not sure how soon though as I still love my toile. Now we will move onto my thrift store finds for the past week. I found these 2 little plates at my local community thrift store. They are butter plate size. I paid $1.50 each which is more than I would normally pay, but I loved them so I splurged. lol.
I just loved the pink roses & blue flowers on the plates. Now I need to find more plates in this pattern.

The back of the plates are stamped Germany Roman V,

At a different local community thrift store I found this gold candle holder. It is missing the glass insert. I'm not going to use it for holding candles. Can you guess what I am going to make with this? Cost $1.00. Maybe this picture will help you out. I am going to make a crown out of this. I will save this project for another Metamorphosis Monday.

At this same thrift store I found this little silver tray for a quarter. I am going to make a little chalkboard out of this. I'll share final result with you later as well on this one.

At Goodwill I scored these 2 Happy Anniversary glasses. They were marked 99 cents, but red was the 1/2 price color tag for this week. So I got them both for a whopping total of 50 cents. That is a quarter a glass!!!!

Here is the back of the glasses.

My wedding anniversary is coming up on June 3rd, so these will be showing up in an upcoming tablescape as well.
And now we will get on to the Metamorphosis portion of our program. I have seen the wonderful flower basket that Susan made for her front door as well as a lot of other talented woman who made one for their front doors as well. I didn't want to be left out. So this past week when I was at my local community thrift store I found this darling basket for $1.00. I thought it would work perfect for a flower basket for my front door.

So here is what I started with for this project. Except I forgot to take photo of my ribbon. The flowers I picked up at Michael's at 50% off.
Ta da!!! Here is the final result. Isn't it purdy? The green ribbon came from the Dollar Tree for $1.00. Basket $1.00. Flowers $6.00. Total cost of this project $8.00. Unfortunately the basket is hanging on my ugly security door. I hate this door, but it came with the house and it works so I can't justify buying a prettier one. I hate the looks of security doors, but they come in handy in the nicer weather. I can have the front door open & get some air and I don't have to worry about someone breaking in.

For my second met project I used the larger of these glass jars. I picked up the glass jars at the thrift store for $1.00 each. Since Mother's Day was this weekend I wanted to give my Mom a present she would love but I didn't have any money to spend. I knew Love would trump Money, so I came up with a plan. I asked everyone in my family to write a list of the 10 things they loved the most about our Mom. I even asked all the grand kids to participate as well. It took quite a bit of reminding, but by 11pm last Friday night I had everyone's list. I then printed out each list separately. I then rolled each list up & tied it with a ribbon. Pink for girls, ivory for boys. I was going to roll them all up with pink but I ran out of pink ribbon. I then put all the rolled up lists in the glass jar. I put a pretty label on the jar (I'll let my mom decide what she wants to call the jar). Added a "M" for mom ornament and tied a green bow on the lid. I then put a tag to: Mom, from : Your family. We gave it to Mom on Saturday when we were all together celebrating Mother's Day a day early.

And here is my Mom with our gift. I told her it was from all of us. We wanted her to know how much we loved her. And now if she ever gets down or misses us, she can pull out our lists & then she will be reminded of our love. Cost of our Mother's Day gift:
Jar: $1.00
Ornament: $1.00 (already had)
Ribbon, tag & label: already had
Look of joy on my Mom's face when she read everyone's list: priceless!!!!

Wow, all excellent finds. I've been trying to find a door basket too (also inspired by Susan's front door). Your mercury glass is lovely and I just love the apothecary jars. Great stuff - can't wait to see what you do with it all.

Hello!
All of your finds are great, and your front door flowers turned out wonderfully, but I ADORE your idea of turning that little silver tray into a chalkboard! With that pretty scalloped lip it will be so pretty! What fantastic, creative ideas you have!
