Summer Vacation Flashback 2001-Days 5&6

Welcome to days 5 & 6 of Kim's family vacation from 2001. For a recap, this was a vacation that we took to visit Mike's niece Sue and her family in Texas. As well as to visit Mike's brother Val in Oklahoma. Since this was a road trip, we thought we'd stop along the trip to visit all the sights.

Days 5 & 6 were spent in San Antonio Texas with us finally ending up at Sue's house east of Dallas. Mike's other niece Jamee & her husband Mike (I refer to him as Mike Y) were also on this vacation with us.

Wednesday, July 11, 2001:

Objectives: We have a whole day to spend in San Antonio, Texas. We will probably visit the Alamo, visit the River Walk, IMAX theatres, and the Schlitterbahn waterpark.

Our Experience: Since we visited the Alamo & River Walk yesterday, Mike, Kim & Jesse went to a water park called Schlitterbahn. It is located about 30 miles east of San Antonio in New Braunfels, TX. It was a blast!. It was voted best water park in America by the Travel Channel & we could see why. There are actually 2 parks. They are located 3 blocks apart. A tram takes you back & forth between the two. We highly recommend going to this if you are ever in the San Antonio region. We spent the entire day at the water park. Brandon, Mike & Jamee all stayed at the hotel to rest up & didn't go. They sure missed out on a fun time!

Cheap gas. We even saw some that was even cheaper,
being sold at $1.09 a gallon.

Objectives: Finish doing whatever there is to do in San Antonio. We will drive north to the Dallas area that afternoon to spend time at Sue's house for a few days.

Our Experience: We still had a few things to see in San Antonio. We went to Market Square. Which is a Mexican market. It is almost like being in Tijuana, but much nicer. Then we went to Buckhorn Saloon & Museum. It was really cool. The museum had different rooms with dead animals from different parts of the world on display. Also a lot of things made out of antlers. The saloon was built in the 1800's. We ate lunch there. Afterwards we drove to Sue & Rich's house in East Tawakoni Texas which is about 50 miles east of Dallas.

Sue's kids (who were at home). Ricky, Crystal & Justice (Sue's grandson whom she is raising). Sue's other son Travis was in Ohio at his grandparents.
